Natural Mosquito Repellents
These days, mosquitoes seem to be everywhere. You sit down in the evening to relax, and there they are—first one mosquito, then another.
Before you know it, your peaceful stay becomes a battleground.
Most people quickly reach for mosquito coils, sprays, or creams.
But here’s the problem—these commercial repellents contain strong chemicals.
Yes, they may keep mosquitoes away for some time, but they can also irritate your skin, affect your breathing, and are especially harmful to children over time.
Your intention is good—to protect your loved ones—but unknowingly, you may be doing more harm than good.
The better way is natural, gentle, and effective protection.
Today, I’ll show you how to make three simple mosquito repellents that are safe for your body, your home, and your family:
- A light water-based spray
- A calming mosquito-repellent candle
And in the end, I’ll share a traditional night-time protection tip that has been trusted for generations.
🌸 Mosquito Repellent Body Oil
This oil is light, fragrant, and works by masking your scent from mosquitoes so they can’t bite you.
Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp cold-pressed coconut oil or neem oil
- 10 drops citronella essential oil
- 10 drops lemongrass essential oil
- 5 drops eucalyptus or peppermint oil
- (Optional) 3 drops lavender oil for a calming fragrance
Method:
Mix all the ingredients well and store in a dark glass bottle.
Every evening, take a few drops and apply to your arms, neck, and legs—wherever your skin is exposed.
It’s completely natural and smells refreshing. Just remember to do a patch test if you have sensitive skin.
💧 Water-Based Mosquito Spray
If you don’t want to use oil during the day, you can try a lighter spray.
This can be used around the house or even on your clothes.
Ingredients:
- 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
- 5 drops eucalyptus or tea tree oil
Method:
Mix them well and store in a spray bottle. Shake before use.
Spray on clothes, curtains, or even yoga mats.
You can also use it lightly on your skin when you’re indoors or sitting near a window. It’s gentle, fresh, and earthy.
🕯️ Mosquito Repellent Candle
Evenings are when mosquitoes are most active. Instead of burning chemical coils, try making your own natural repellent candle.
Ingredients:
1. Soya wax
2. Few drops thyme and patchouli oil
3. Glass jar and wick
Method:
Melt the wax, stir in the oils, place the wick, and let it set.
Light this candle in the evening, and your space will be filled with a natural mosquito-repelling aroma—without smoke, fumes, or irritation.
🌿 Traditional Indian Night-Time Protection
For generations, Indian households have used simple methods for night-time protection.
Before going to sleep, apply a little neem oil or mustard oil behind your ears and on your feet. This keeps insects away while you rest.
7 Post Meal Mistakes to Avoid
You can also burn a few dried neem leaves in the evening.
It’s a time-tested way to purify your space and keep it mosquito-free.
🌙 The Natural Way to Peaceful Sleep
When you protect yourself with nature, you’re not just keeping mosquitoes away—you’re also caring for your skin, your breath, and your immunity.

- A light, refreshing feeling
Let nature protect and support you—even while you sleep.
