Private aviation in 2026 sits at an odd intersection: demand from ultra-high-net-worth buyers keeps climbing, waitlists for new flagship jets stretch two to three years, and yet the charter market has never been easier to access thanks to jet card programs and broker apps.
Whether you’re pricing out an outright purchase, weighing a fractional share, or just want to know what it costs to charter the same aircraft a head of state or a tech billionaire flies, this guide breaks down the ten most luxurious private jets on the market right now — purchase prices, financing structures, charter rates, insurance costs, notable owners, and the customization options that separate a stock airframe from a genuine flying residence.
1. Gulfstream G700 — The New Benchmark
The G700 is Gulfstream’s flagship and, depending on how you count converted airliners, the most expensive purpose-built business jet in production. It succeeded the long-running G650 (which ended production in February 2025) and represents the current technological ceiling for a purpose-built cabin: five distinct living zones, 10 windows per side, 8 feet 2 inches of cabin width, and 6 feet 3 inches of stand-up headroom — noticeably roomier than the G650 and G550 it replaces.
Brief history:
Announced in October 2021, the G700 received FAA and EASA certification and began customer deliveries through 2024, with Qatar Executive (a Qatar Airways subsidiary) becoming the launch charter operator and the first carrier to put G700s into commercial charter service. Flexjet was announced as a fractional-ownership launch customer.
A Look Inside:
Outright purchase price:
New list price runs $75–78 million, with fully customized configurations pushing past $80 million once bespoke interiors, upgraded avionics, and cabin-management systems are added. Pre-owned examples, where available, have traded around $73 million, since the type is so new that depreciation hasn’t meaningfully set in yet.
Installment / financing structure:
Aircraft financiers typically structure G700 purchases with 10–20% down and the balance financed over 10–15 years. On a $73 million pre-owned example, a $36.5 million loan (50% financed) over 120 months carries roughly $152,000/month in interest alone, for a total monthly payment near $1.83 million. Buyers financing the full new-aircraft price should expect monthly payments well north of $2 million before insurance, hangar, and crew costs are layered on.
Charter price:
Hourly charter rates range from about $12,000 to $17,000+, with most operators quoting $13,000–$16,500 depending on route, positioning, and cabin configuration. A genuinely ultra-long-haul sector — Hong Kong to Casablanca, for instance — can run a fully inclusive $250,000–$260,000 for a single one-way trip.
Annual ownership cost:
Flying 200 hours a year, total ownership cost (fixed + variable, excluding financing) runs approximately $2.0–2.2 million annually; at 400 hours, roughly $3.1–3.4 million. Factor in depreciation (an estimated $2.25 million in year one alone) and mortgage interest on a financed purchase, and first-year all-in cost for an owner flying 200 hours and financing half the purchase can approach $5.1–5.2 million.
Insurance:
Hull and liability coverage on a $75–80 million aircraft typically runs in the $150,000–$400,000 per year range, varying with pilot experience minimums, geographic operating area, and liability limits (commonly $100–500 million in combined liability coverage for aircraft at this value tier).
Known owners/operators:
Jeff Bezos has been reported to operate a G700 alongside an older G650. Qatar Executive and Flexjet operate G700s in charter/fractional fleets, making this one of the few flagship-tier aircraft you can genuinely charter a seat or a full aircraft on rather than needing to know an owner personally.
Where to charter:
Qatar Executive, Flexjet, Air Charter Advisors, Vector Jet, and major broker platforms including BLADE and PrivateFly all list G700 availability.
Where to buy:
Gulfstream direct sales (new), plus specialist pre-owned brokers such as Jet Advisors, Guardian Jet, and Colibri Aircraft handle secondary-market G700 transactions.
Customization options:
Buyers choose between 13-seat luxury layouts with a full double bedroom and en-suite shower, or higher-density configurations up to 19 passengers. Options include a dedicated crew rest compartment, a conference/dining suite that converts between the two, custom veneer and leather packages, satellite connectivity upgrades, and Gulfstream’s Symmetry Flight Deck with active control sidesticks — a system unique to Gulfstream among large-cabin jets.
Unique feature:
The G700’s cabin altitude technology keeps pressurization equivalent to under 3,000 feet even at cruise altitude of 51,000 feet, reducing jet lag and fatigue on ultra-long sectors — a detail frequent long-haul flyers notice immediately.
